Do You Have Back Pain? Here’s What I Found Out

If there’s one sure-fire way to tell that you’re an adult, then it’s getting a bad back! Growing up, you probably noticed pretty much every adult in your life complained about a bad back, a stiff neck and so on. When I was younger I didn’t take it seriously and as an adult, I developed problems and that led me to find out why. Experiencing it for the first time is just a ritual of adulthood! If you’ve been experiencing a bad back and you’re not sure where it came from, here are some of the most common causes…

If you’ve been experiencing a bad back and you’re not sure where it came from, here are some of the most common causes…

You’re Using a Soft Mattress

Good mattresses are essential for a good night’s sleep, but also for various aspects of our general health, including our spines and back muscles. Some people think that how soft or hard a mattress really doesn’t matter, and that they’re all universal in how much support they give.

This is wrong! Mattresses on the softer end of the spectrum can cause a lot of the weight on your back to be uneven for however many hours you spend asleep. Medium-firm mattresses, or ones designed especially for back support, can really help people who suffer from persistent back pain. If Christmas has cost you less than you thought it would, you may want to go looking for the

Doing Too Many Chores

I’m sure you’ll agree with me that taking care of household chores can be a real hassle. Aside from how stressful doing necessary chores can be, too much of them can be pretty detrimental to the health of your back. Studies have linked mopping, doing laundry, hand-washing dishes or even carrying shopping bags to back problems. In general, you can be pretty sure that any kind of chore that makes you bend at the waist is going to be strenuous after enough of it. The next time you’re going to try and power through your

The next time you’re going to try and power through your chores, try to pay attention to the way you move. Instead of bending over to pick things up, bend your knees to relieve some of the pressure on your back. Even better, leverage your back problems to get your spouse or kids to help for once!

Bad Diet

Just like anything to do with your health, the way you eat is going to have a pretty big effect on how prone you are to continual back pain. If you’re eating far too much sugar and processed food, it can easily spike inflammation in the back muscles and cause some serious pain. A large proportion of the people who seek treatment for back pain also tend to suffer from gastrointestinal issues, such as food intolerance and abdominal pains which come and go.

The link between diet and back pain is mainly down to inflammation. Foods with high fat and sugar content will cause inflammation throughout the body, including the lower back. Try to cut out some of the fats and sugars in your diet, and you’ll notice your back pain easing off, along with a whole range of other benefits!

If you’ve had enough of your back pain, I hope this post helps your recovery!
