Fitness Mistakes Most People Make
Are you constantly hitting the gym and eating all the right things but not getting the results you desire? No one ever said that getting fit was easy and there is way more to achieving a great body than just hitting the gym. If you’re feeling deflated after poor results then identify what mistakes you’re making from the list below and make a change.
You’re not getting enough sleep
You need to make sure you’re getting a good amount of quality sleep each and every night if you want your body to function at it’s best. It’s probably THE MOST important thing to achieving a better body. No amount of gym workouts or good dieting will give you the body you’re dying to get if you don’t give it sufficient amounts of sleep.
Sleeping is absolutely vital to weight loss and it essentially controls your diet. If you don’t get seven to eight hours of sleep per night, it will undo all the good you’ve done regarding your diet. Studies have proven that those who sleep less also lose less than those who are getting adequate amounts of shut eye. Not getting enough sleep can also lead to you feeling hungrier and of course, you’ll lack the energy needed to exercise to your full potential.
You’re not giving your body what it needs
You wouldn’t expect a car to go anywhere without putting fuel in it would you, so why would you expect something as intricate as your body to run properly without giving it everything that it needs?
You need to be giving your body the right fuel constantly, but even more so just before your workout.
There are foods that can ensure you own your next workout and there are also foods that will work against you. While nuts and avocados are recommended for your general diet, they actually take a long time to digest and so they aren’t what you should be using to fuel your body just before a workout.
You need to make sure you’re fueling your body the right way before you workout and that means making sure you have enough carbs too. Yes, you’re trying to burn them off when you work out but you need them in the first place to get things done.
You’re not drinking enough
There’s always an incredible amount of emphasis on what you’re eating when you’re trying to get fit, but drinking is equally important. Your body needs to remain hydrated at all times and you must be drinking six to eight glasses of water every day.
If you’re not too great at remembering to drink often enough, buy a water bottle and make sure you take it everywhere with you. You’ll grow accustomed to holding it in your hand and eventually sipping away regularly throughout the day will become second nature to you.
There are plenty of ways to jazz up what you’re drinking too. You don’t have to stick to plain “boring” water if you can’t stand the taste. Simply add fruit to improve the taste and once you find what works for you, you’ll struggle to get enough of it!
You’re doing too much cardio
You’ve probably read a million times that the only way you’re going to get rid of that unwanted fat is if you burn it off by doing cardio. Whilst that is of course completely true, you could be doing too much cardio and that will have a detrimental effect to your workouts.
Starting your workout with a sprint on the treadmill is a great idea and interval training is definitely something I’d recommend, but staying on the treadmill for too long can actually burn away muscle as well as fat – something you really DON’T want to happen.

You’re not eating the right stuff
Well, this one might seem pretty obvious but you might be oblivious to the fact you’re eating the wrong things. We all obviously have a daily calorie intake to meet but that doesn’t mean that you can eat anything you like as long as you reach it or stay below it. Not all carbs were made equal and if you’re eating the wrong things, it won’t matter that you’re not exceeding your daily intake as you’ll be doing enough damage with your bad food choices.
You’re not doing the right workouts
In the same way that not all carbs were made equal, it also applies to workouts too. Not every workout you see or read about will be right for your body and it really does depend on what you’re looking to achieve. If you’re looking to tone up then you need to be doing things differently compared to someone who just wants to shift the pounds.
Also, don’t be fooled by workout programs promising quick, easy results, such as the bikini workout by Kayla. That is a big fitness mistake many people make. You need to do your research and don’t spend money on anything until you’ve read some reviews and seen some real life results for yourself.
You’re not working towards an end goal
One of the most important things for anyone on a fitness journey and to avoid fitness mistakes is that they have something to aim towards. Without a goal, you’ll struggle to motivate yourself. It’s not easy dragging yourself to the gym in the freezing cold when you want to snuggle up by the fire with naughty food and eat your body weight.
Nor is it easy to slog it out at the gym when it’s crazy hot and you can barely walk to the car after work without needing to shower from the amount of sweat on your body.
Think about why you want to get fit. Do you want to like what you see in the mirror? Do you want to be healthier for your kids? Perhaps you’re feeling sluggish and you’re hoping to regain some decent levels of energy again.
You’re not getting enough variety
You need to mix things up if you want remain interested in exercise. You’re not going to stay dedicated and committed if the thought of breaking a sweat makes you want to scream into a pillow.
There are so many ways to exercise out there that you’ll probably never be able to try them all.
