Women and men have different medical needs. Because of our different bodies, the two sexes are likely to suffer from different health conditions. If you are interested in keeping your health in check, this blog post is for you. The following list includes common health conditions that women should be aware

Breast Lumps

Every woman needs to regularly check her breasts for lumps. You shouldn’t be worried if you find a lump. They are very common, and there are various reasons why you may have developed one. But you should still book an appointment with your doctor if you find a lump. This is just to make sure that it is not cancer. Common benign lumps include breast cysts and fibroadenoma. These normally aren’t treated, but can be removed if they are causing you pain.

Eye Health

As women get older, their eye health will start to deteriorate. So it is important to have regular checkups with your optician. This way, you will be able to get any glaucoma treatment or cataract surgery before the conditions affect your eyesight too much. It is also important to see your optician about any decreases in your vision. Age can cause our eyesight to fail, but your optician can help by prescribing you with suitable glasses or contact lenses.

Osteoporosis

If you experience any bone weakness, you could be suffering from osteoporosis. However, there is much you can do to prevent this condition while you are still young. Make sure you are getting plenty of vitamin D. You can get this from just being out in the sun or by eating plenty of dairy products and fatty fish. If you live in an area that doesn’t get much sunlight, think about taking a daily vitamin D supplement. You should also try to increase your intake of vitamin C as well.

Mental Health

Depression currently affects more women than men. Especially since we bear much of the brunt of any emotional fallout from breakups and other tough personal situations. Hormonal changes can also be a big cause of depression. If you feel like you are finding it difficult to cope with everything in your life, try and seek professional help. Visit your family doctor first. He or she will refer you to a therapist or mental health specialist.

Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer is a big killer in women as its early stage has no symptoms. Some of the first symptoms that are noticeable include bleeding from the vagina and pain during sex. Some women also experience bleeding in between periods.

Don’t panic too much if you notice any abnormal bleeding, as it isn’t always a sign of cervical cancer. However, it is always a good idea to visit your doctor. If it is caught in the early stages, cervical cancer can be easily treated by surgery. Alternatively, radiotherapy is often used as the main form of treatment.
Many of these conditions are treatable if caught at an early stage. So make sure you continually check yourself for any symptoms!
