There probably isn’t anyone in the world who’s delighted with what they see in the mirror every single time they look at themselves. Even old Hollywood screen sirens and modern actresses who are thought of as great beauties tend to see mostly what they consider to be their flaws when they look at themselves. And if even they don’t think they’re perfect, how can we mere mortals cope with what we see? Here are some tips on how you can make yourself feel better about the person that you are.

Overhaul Your Style

Obviously ,we don’t all have infinite amounts of money to change everything about our fashion sense and replace our entire closets full of clothes, but there are always options out there if you think that you’d like a change. Investing in a few key pieces for the upcoming season is always a good idea.

 

 

For the winter, choose a good quality tailored overcoat. Navy blue or elegant gray are always classic colors for a coat – or you could push the boat out and choose festive tones like scarlet or forest green. A new bag or a pair of boots can also upgrade pretty much any outfit from a miss into a hit. Remember to go for simplicity and classic styles – they’ll never age or go out of style which means that you can keep and use your new items forever!

If you don’t feel amazing about the way you look, then cosmetic surgery is a valid option. Don’t worry too much about other people’s opinions – what matters most is the way you feel about yourself and if you’ve always been troubled by your overbite or the shape of your nose then there’s no reason that you shouldn’t change it. If you don’t really know much about how to do your makeup then why not learn from the professionals? Go to a department store or a makeup shop and ask for a makeover. Tell them all about your skin type so they can recommend the best primer and foundation for you, and trust them to do their work on you. Remember that if you get a makeover, you should really buy some of the products at the end. If you’ve always been unsure about your makeup, ask the makeup artist if your skin is cool toned or warm toned, so you know what colors to pick out.

If you’re cool toned, blue undertones will suit you, but if you’re warm toned, go for a reddish or orangey vibe. It’s important to make sure that your foundation and concealer match your skin perfectly. You should also make sure that you fill your eyebrows in and that you cover up any under eye bags or dark patches. A coat of mascara and a slick of lipstick will instantly brighten your face up and make you feel great.

Not only will having good posture make you look better, but you’ll also feel better and impress other people too. Sitting up straight at work will make you feel more switched on and clued in, and it will also help to improve any aches or pains you might be experiencing in your back. One way to love your body a little more is to be amazed at what it can do. Make sure that your focus is always on getting stronger and healthier rather than getting skinnier. The sort of person you want to be friends with is the kind of person who says “Thank you!” when you pay them a compliment, instead of denying that they look good or getting embarrassed. Being around people who are comfortable in their own skin will rub off on you.

Having positive friendships will make you feel good about yourself – hey, these awesome people want to hang out with me! – and it will also feel great to know that they sincerely support you and your achievements. If you feel good about yourself, it’s easy to be happy for other people when they get what they want as well. Being around motivated and happy people will make you feel the same way.

Gain More Knowledge

A great way to feel confident about what you’re saying is to know that you have facts to back it up. We’ve all got halfway through an argument before having to shut ourselves up because we’re actually not sure what we’re talking about (or is that just me…?). Staying informed is a great way to have confidence in your own words.

Make sure that you read the newspapers as often as you can and that you keep on track with what’s going on in the world around you. It isn’t just politics that you should know about. Learn more about what you’re interested in, whether that’s science, art or popular culture. Having things to talk about will make you feel confident in any given situation, and it’s great to know that you have topics of expertise to fall back on.

Get In Touch With Yourself

The best friend you’ll ever have over the course of your life is yourself. If you feel disengaged from your own life, get back to basics. What do you really love? What are your hobbies? What are you really interested in? Take yourself off to the cinema or to the theater by yourself.

 

 

It might feel weird to do things alone but it will also be remarkably freeing to know that it’s  possible for you to enjoy your own company. Can you ever really appreciate being with someone else before you understand how to be alone as well? You could even go a step further and go to a music concert or a restaurant by yourself. You don’t need to be with other people all the time to have fun – once you learn to be alone with your own thoughts, you’ll learn that your head is an interesting and intelligent place to be.

Treat People With Kindness

More than anything else, knowing that you treat people well makes you feel good about yourself. It’s possible to change the world a little bit at a time by offering smiles, giving people help, giving to charity when you can, and doing a small good deed every day. Your good deed could be absolutely anything. If you’re on your commute and you see someone struggling with bags or a baby in a stroller as they try to make their way up some stairs, help out. If there’s a homeless person outside the coffee shop where you’re buying your lunch, get them a sandwich too. Although they may seem like very small acts, they’re sincerely helping people out and doing good in the world. If you know you’ve done something good that day, you’ll feel a real sense of accomplishment when you’re in bed falling asleep that night.

    Love all of these tips – especially learning to appreciate yourself and your own company and surrounding yourself with positive people. I remember hearing the advice that you are the sum of the people you spend the most time with. I’ve been trying to prove it wrong ever since (because I like everybody!), but it just seems to get more and more true as I get older.
