Self-Esteem: The Tips That Really Work
We live in a culture which promotes cosmetic products as the answer to all our beauty problems and insecurities. Of course, this isn’t always a bad thing. The key to being happier with your appearance is to simply find the right balance of commercial products and natural solutions (whether physical or mental). The end goal should always be to improve your self-esteem.
Forget what other people tell you to do. If you change your appearance to make others happy then you’re not doing anything for your self-esteem; you’re feeding into your insecurities because you’re worrying too much about what other people think. If you really want to feel more confident about your beauty regime and your general appearance, no matter how natural it may or may not be, then here are some pieces of advice which might just help you.
Your physical appearance.
We all have body and appearance issues to some extent. And no, there is no ideal body shape. Everybody’s different. Sometimes, being over-skinny can be just as unhealthy for you as being overweight. That’s why you shouldn’t ever opt for the route of starving yourself to get the figure you want. And in terms of the appearance of your skin, you shouldn’t throw every product under the sun at it to make it look the way you want. Makeup is fine in small doses, but give your skin a break now and then. Make sure you remove it all properly too.
In terms of non-natural solutions to your figure, you shouldn’t be afraid to make small changes if it’s your decision. Making any sort of alteration to your body isn’t something you should take lightly. Only do it if you’re sure you came to the decision by yourself. Surgical routes aren’t the only way to go, of course. You can look into hair growth therapy if you’re unhappy in that regard. You can even look into breast enhancement pills if you feel a little unhappy with your chest. There are many options out there with regards to changing your body’s appearance (exercising and dieting differently are the easiest ways to make a change, of course). Just be sure that you’re only making such a decision if it will make you happier and boost your self-esteem.
Holding your head high makes all the difference when it comes to being happier with your appearance. If you want to have more self-esteem then you need to fake having self-esteem. It’s a bit of a cliché but you need to “fake it until you make it”. Just give it a try and watch your appearance change. Next time you look in the mirror, work on your posture. This is obviously a good general piece of health advice but the way in which you hold your head and your body really affects your appearance. It makes you look stronger, bolder, more confident, and… well, better.
Smiling more can make a big difference too. There’s something attractive about happiness. And the more you start to realize how good you look when you act confident, the more confident and happy you’ll actually become. Positive cycles really do work in much the same way that your current negative cycle works.
Attractiveness is all about perception anyway. Part of you may want to believe your friends who tell you that you’re beautiful but you’ll only start to see it once your self-perception changes. And, hopefully, the advice given in this article will help to improve your sense of self-esteem. It’s not about arrogantly thinking you’re the most beautiful person on earth but simply respecting your body and acknowledging your worth both physically and mentally.
