Do You Have Hearing Loss?
Many people don’t know this about me but I am partially deaf. Some years ago I lost 70 percent hearing in my right ear and know how important it is to take care of your hearing!
Your hearing is hugely important, not just for the obvious reasons but for your general health as well. If you allow your hearing to worsen, over time, you will find that it also means your health suffers. Fortunately, taking care of your hearing is relatively simple to do, as long as you know what you need to do. There are a few key things which you should pay attention to, and as long as you do that you will find that it is simple to keep on top of your hearing health. In this article, we will discuss some of the basic things to watch out for if you are worried about your hearing, or you have already had a little hearing loss, and you want to stop it from worsening.
Avoid Loud Noises
It might be an obvious point, but it is also one of the most essential, and it is worth remembering. If you want to look after your health, then you should do what you can to avoid loud noises as much as possible. When you expose yourself to loud noises on a regular basis, it impacts the eardrum and inner ear. This is okay every once in a while, but if you do it too often, you will find that it gradually reduces your ability to hear clearly. Wearing ear protectors if you work in a noisy environment is a very good idea, as is keeping the volume of music down, particularly if your ears start hurting.
Look After Your Aid
If you already have some hearing loss, it is especially important to take care – not just of your ears themselves, but your hearing aid as well. Many people completely fail to look after their hearing aids in the proper fashion, and it’s worth knowing what you need to do to take care of yours.
Firstly, be sure to keep it in its case when you are not using it, for example at night. Also be sure to clean it regularly, in the way that you have been shown, as this will help to keep it lasting longer. Sometimes, hearing aids do break, and if that happens, you should look into finding good hearing aid repair at the earliest opportunity. Look after your aid – look after your hearing.
Know The Signs
As with anything else to do with your health, you will benefit from knowing the signs as clearly as possible. For hearing loss, the clearest signs are dizziness, vertigo, anxiety and pain in the inner ear. It goes without saying that you should also watch out for your hearing decreasing, although this can sometimes happen so gradually that you are not aware it’s happening. Pay attention to the signs, and you will be more likely to look after your hearing well. Remember too that if you do find any of these signs regularly, then you should go and see your doctor as soon as you can – especially if you already have some hearing loss.
